Coos Bay Surfriders are hosting their 5th annual STAND UP! FOR THE BAY on September 26th, 2015. This is a community paddle event in support of the Coos Bay and other coastal waters. This event is designed to celebrate our amazing estuary and to raise funds for the continued monitoring of Coos Bay waters via the Blue Water Task Force.
Pre-registration cost is $10 for adults and free for children under 12. Event-day registration will be $12. Cost includes the paddle event fee, food, paddle joust, and festivities. T-shirts this year will be sold separately.
Registration (starts at 8 am)
Meet at the Coos Bay Boardwalk, and find the Surfrider registration table to check in. Coffee will be provided, and route details will be discussed.
The Paddle (9 am to 11 am):
Kayaks, Canoes, SUPs and paddle boards are all welcome to participate. The paddle route is appropriate for all skill levels – and starts at 9 am. Life Jackets required. Rentals and information can be found at Waxer’s Surf Shop.
Bay Cleanup (9 am to 11 am)
If you don’t feel like paddling, come and help us clean up the bay! We will be walking along the bay, and cleaning as we go.
Live Music, and Luau (starts at 11 am):
Live music and a luau on the boardwalk will begin at 11 am. After the paddle, come and enjoy some delicious food and a bar set up by Sharkbites Cafe.
Educational Activities (start at 8:30 am):
This year we are teaming up with South Slough Estuarine Research Reserve, Wild and Scenic Rivers (from Brookings, OR), and Coast Range Forest Watch, who will be providing kids activities and estuary education for the event! All are welcome!
Come and test your medieval skills on a paddle board! Our current champion is Craig Longobardi. Come and challenge our champion!
