Each Independence Day hundreds of revelers flock to Bastendorff beach to party. Most are well meaning and clean up their own trash. Some don't realize their scrap wood fires leave behind nails that can cause injury to subsequent beach goers. Others might not care. The result is a beach strewn with beer cans, firework's casings, and nails. Most of this would end up in the ocean without intervention. We need YOU to help us clean up the mess before this happens!
- Tuesday, July 5th at Bastendorff Beach
- Early Bird Cleanup in the morning / during the day
- 5pm evening cleanup - for folks who work during the day
- Family Friendly - Dog Friendly
- Bring your friends!
Early Bird Cleanup: Some folks are camping overnight at Bastendorff and will have an "early bird" cleanup. Please come in the morning if your are able, because high tide is at 2pm and will carry out a lot of the debris before the organized evening clean-up. We're calling on the early birds to get there as early in the morning as possible and cover the intertidal zone. The evening group will get the upper parts of the beach and dunes, and work on removing the nails from the fire pits.
At the 5 pm cleaning, we'll provide bags, pickers, gloves, nails for magnets, etc. This is one clean-up where there's enough garbage for EVERYONE, and more people means a cleaner beach.
Thanks for showing our beach some love this Independence Day!
