Chasing Ice movie showing for Earth Day!

Free movie night!  Monday @ 7 pm, the film Chasing Ice will have a free showing at SOCC's Performing Arts Center

Acclaimed environmental photographer James Balog was once a skeptic about climate change and a cynic about the nature of academic research. But through his Extreme Ice Survey, he discovers undeniable evidence of our changing planet. In Chasing Ice, Balog deploys revolutionary time lapse cameras to capture a multiyear record of the world's changing glaciers. His hauntingly beautiful videos compress years into seconds and capture ancient mountains of ice in motion as they disappear at a breathtaking rate. Traveling with a team of young adventurers across the brutal Arctic, Balog risks his career and his wellbeing in pursuit of the biggest story facing humanity. As the debate polarizes America, and the intensity of natural disasters ramps up globally, Chasing Ice depicts a heroic photojournalist on a mission to deliver fragile hope to our carbon powered planet.
Our very own Annie Pollard (Secretary of the Coos Bay Chapter) is a research biologist, who travels to Antarctica every year to study Adelie penguins. She will be co-introducing the film on Monday, as we celebrate Earth day! Join the Surfrider Chapter in our efforts to engage, educate, and inspire our community to become active. The film is being sponsored by South Slough, Coos Watershed Association and SOCC, and will take place at the Hales Center for the Performing Arts. We thank them for their active role in celebrating Earth Day!
