LUBA (Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals) overthrew a North Bend decision to allow Jordan Cove LNG to dump dredge spoils under the south end of the McCullough Bridge.
This is a victory, because Jordan Cove LNG plan would have destroyed eel grass beds, where baby fish, crabs, and other creatures live.
Timeline:
- August 19, 2019 – North Bend Planning Commission approved JCEP's permit
- Citizens for Renewables appealed the decision to North Bend City Council
- October 4, 2019 – North Bend dismissed CFR's appeal
- Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition and Citizens For Renewables applealed to LUBA (The Land Use Board of Appeals of Oregon)
- July 17, 2020 – LUBA reversed the City of North Bend's approval of JCEP's application
This shows that what we do – all of us who are standing up for our Bay – matters. It took a little over 1 year ... folks testifying at public hearings, writing letters, facebooking, calling our elected officials, filing protests & appeals ... and sticking with the legal process, to put a HUGE ROADBLOCK in front of Jordan Cove LNG.
